Please read Luke 15:11-24 and use these notes to prepare for Sunday morning worship.

Sermon Focus: A Father’s Grace

Key Verse: “A few days later the younger son gathered all he had and traveled to a distant country, and there he squandered his property in dissolute living”

  • In what ways do we disregard the love that others show for us?
  • Has there been a time in life where you have realized that you had a mistake and had nothing else to do but to go back to the beginning and try again?

Key Verse: “So he set off and went to his father. But while he was still far off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion; he ran and put his arms around him and kissed him.”

  • What does it mean, after having found one’s self in immense trouble, to return to an environment of grace and love?
  • In what way has this gracious support been present in your life?

Connection for Today:

“For most of my life I have struggled to find God, to know God, to love God. I have tried hard to follow the guidelines of the spiritual life—pray always, work for others, read the Scriptures—and to avoid the many temptations to dissipate myself. I have failed many times but always tried again, even when I was close to despair.”

-Henri Nouwen, The Return of the Prodigal Son: A Story of Homecoming
