Please read John 4: 5-42 and use these notes to prepare for Sunday morning worship.

Sermon Focus: CrossFit For the Soul: Hydrate

Key Verse: “Jesus answered, ‘Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks from the water that I will give will never be thirsty again. The water that I give will become in those who drink it a spring of water that bubbles up into eternal life.’” (John 4: 13 & 14)

  • What do you think it means to be spiritually thirsty?
  • In Methodism we talk about means of grace as ways to rehydrate our souls. Means of grace include: prayer, worship, study, fasting, meditation, and the sacraments. What means of grace have you sought out for your hydration?

Key Verse:   Jesus said to them, ‘I am fed by doing the will of the one who sent me and by completing his work.’” (John 4: 34)

  • How are you fed spiritually?
  • In what ways do you seek to complete the work of God in your life?

Connection for Today:

Wesley teaches that the means of grace are practices that draw us closer to God. Baptism is one means of grace that does just that. The symbolism of water is central to baptism and reminds us of the life giving water Jesus offers to all of us. In baptism we are nourished or hydrated by God’s grace so that we may find strength to be like Christ in all that we do. Remember your baptism and be thankful.
