Please read John 3: 1-17 and use these notes to prepare for Sunday morning worship.

Sermon Focus: CrossFit for the Soul: Reset

Key Verse: “Jesus answered, ‘I assure you, unless someone is born anew, it’s not possible to see God’s kingdom.’” (John 3: 3)

  • The phrase “Born Again” has a lot of baggage in modern Christianity. What do you think it means to be born anew in the spirit? How might you reclaim this phrase for yourself?
  • By being born anew our perspectives are reset to align with God’s vision. How might you work to reset your perspectives this Lent?

Key Verse:   God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him won’t perish but will have eternal life. God didn’t send his Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through him.” (John 3:16 & 17)

  • This is one of the most famous passages of scripture. How does it resonate with you?
  • How does the knowledge of Christ’s unconditional love and saving works offer you comfort and encouragement to share God’s love?

Connection for Today:

When John Wesley listed the four most important doctrines found in scripture, new birth was included. This is because Wesley believed that God’s saving grace not only offers us forgiveness but also an opportunity for new life—a life of holiness. A new birth begins a journey of deeper relationship with God and God’s creation.
