Please read Matthew 25: 31-40 and use these notes to prepare for Sunday morning worship.

Sermon Focus: A Vison for Justice Focused Outreach

Our Core Value: Justice Focused Outreach

We seek to engage in the work of justice by feeding the hungry, clothing the poor, housing the homeless, visiting the sick and imprisoned, welcoming the stranger, giving voice to the voiceless, caring for the marginalized, and being good stewards of the environment, so that God’s reign might be realized in our local, national, and global communities.

  • How does this core value reflect the passage from Matthew 25? What does it mean when we claim this as a core value of SSUMC?
  • In what ways do you see Justice Focused Outreach in our church and in the community? How might we seek to increase our outreach that offers justice?

“Where justice is denied, where poverty is enforced, where ignorance prevails, and where any one class is made to feel that society is an organized conspiracy to oppress, rob and degrade them, neither persons nor property will be safe.” –Frederick Douglass

Reconciliation should be accompanied by justice, otherwise it will not last. While we all hope for peace it shouldn’t be peace at any cost but peace based on principle, on justice. – Corazon Aquino
