Please read Luke 14:1-14 and use these notes to prepare for Sunday morning worship.

Sermon Focus: Celebrate at the Table of God

Key Verse: “But when you are invited, go and sit down at the lowest place, so that when your host comes, he may say to you, ‘Friend, move up higher’; then you will be honored in the presence of all who sit at the table with you. For all who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”

What “table” or other place in your life can you take the seat of lower honor?
How does humility impact your daily life?

Key Verse: “And you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you, for you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.”

Jesus is talking about the dinner guests that you invite. When was the last time you invited someone over for dinner?
What does Jesus mean by you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous?

Since 1940 Christians all over the world have celebrated communion on World Communion Sunday. It has grown into an international ecumenical celebration of Christian unity. It is a time set aside to remember our unity with Christians around the world who will break bread in Jesus’ name. As we remember make we take a moment to ask ourselves, “Who is not at this table of God, and who needs our invitation?”
