Please read Acts 9:36-42 to prepare for Sunday morning worship.

Sermon Focus: “Dorcas Becomes Alive”

Now in Joppa there was a disciple whose name was Tabitha, which in Greek is Dorcas. She was devoted to good works and acts of charity. (Acts 9:36)

  • This disciple was devoted to good works and acts of charity. Acts goes on to mention that she makes clothing and cares for widows.  What good works are you devoted to?  And how do you live out charity in your own life?

Peter put all of them outside, and then he knelt down and prayed. He turned to the body and said, “Tabitha, get up.” Then she opened her eyes, and seeing Peter, she sat up. (Acts 9: 40)

  • Dorcas dies and the widows that she has helped send for the disciples. Peter heals her and brings her back to life.  In what ways is the Spirit calling you to get up and care for those who are in need?

This scripture speaks of the power of the Spirit at work to restore us to truly living, not just for ourselves but also for the transformation of the world.  True living leads each of us to lives filled with good works and acts of charity.  May the transformation begin with each of us.
